Review:
Despicable Me tells a story of supervillain Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) who has been outshined by a younger villain, Vector and in an attempt to out-do Vector, takes on a mission to steal the moon. He adopts three young orphans, Margo, Edith and Agnes to infiltrate Vector’s home by selling cookies. With the help of the girls, Dr. Nefario and minions, they prepare for the big heist. However the evildoer slowly questions his evil priorities and has a change of heart and embraces fatherhood.

While being an animated movie, perhaps the most disturbing aspect is the depiction of adoption. Although it is all done for laughs, families of adopted children may feel very sensitive, particular how the process is handled. However the movie provides a good lesson that villains can be good people too.
With a personal distaste for animated movies, you still cannot deny how adorable the minions are in their yellow exercise ball size and blue overalls. Although they take up much of the screen time, you will be bound to get a few laughs in their incomprehensible dialogue and their childish sense of humour. Overall, the movie is MINIONTASTIC, brainless, heartless and likeable by all ages and has definitely made me less sceptical in animation movies.

Personal Rating:
I give Despicable Me ★★★
