Review:
I would like to start this by saying I'm a fan of this movie, that being said the movie is not without its flaws. Pacific Rim focuses on an ex Jaeger pilot, named Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam), as he along with his co-pilots fight against large alien monsters that have suddenly started appearing from beneath the pacific ocean. Guillermo Del Toro is an amazing director who has done some talented things in the past and this continues that. The graphics look stunning and you can’t go past everything that just makes your inner child jump in excitement, between the giant robots fighting giant aliens you get to see huge guns and even a cargo container ship being used as sword. The unique design for all the jaegers and Kaiju (monsters) makes them easy to distinguish between and the acting in Pacific Rim are pretty good with Idris Elba even giving an inspiration speech on par with Independence Day. Despite this you can get the impression that Charlie Day, along with his onscreen brother, are there to be comic relief at times that could be more dramatic. There is even a nice ohmage to valve with the voice of their hit game series, Portal, main antagonist Glados being used as the voice of the A.I. in the movie and I can appreciate they even decided to tone the voice down between the trailer and release making it more of a nice Easter egg as opposed to a stand out ‘look who it is' type situation. The story of the movie, while being decent enough, becomes very predictable early on with plot twists easily anticipated; even the major ones. Even though there are some plot holes and a predictable storyline I still like this movie and would recommend it if you’re a fan of the genre.

I give Pacific Rim a 4/5 rating.
