Review:
World War Z Follows former united nation
investigator, Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), after he and his family barely escape the
city during the outbreak of a disease that kills and turns the recent dead into
zombies, he gets rescued and persuaded to investigate the disease in-order for
a safe place for his family. During the investigation Gerry ends up in
countries around the world facing different perils and dangers while trying to
find the source of the disease as well as a way to beat it.
I should begin by saying while I haven’t
actually read the book but I feel like I know enough about it to know they did
not commit to their source material. That being said the movie itself was not
bad, while not the greatest either it was structured fairly well with
following Gerry as he put together the
information he gather to come up with solutions to the problems at hand. The
story itself however was not too spectacular. There where points where somebody
as smart as Gerry is made out to be, should have realised would have been
problematic. With major problems with him making noise, while trying not to
spoil much he is given a satellite phone to communicate with and he refuses to
ever turn it off or ever turn its ringer off, and when it does cause a problem
it still never gets addressed. The last major risk Gerry faces could have been
avoided a number of ways. The acting is pretty decent with Brad Pitt’s
portrayal as a family man in the beginning and action star throughout was
decent despite having little emotion throughout. I’m a little disappointed that
they didn’t end up going with their source material though, with the decline of
quality zombie films coming , it would have been a nice change of pace. However
since the movie still remains fast paced it still holds up as an action movie.
I would not recommend to zombie fans though.
I give World War Z a 3/5 rating.
